This Christmas worship experience is designed
either for a Christmas Eve service, largely led by children; or as the
children’s annual Christmas program. In either case, this will
be a meaningful worship service for the entire congregation. It captures
and holds the attention of children while delivering a powerful message
for adults! It is easily adaptable for both small and large churches.
A special drama unfolds as Grandma with Sarah and Josh, her two grandchildren,
rummage through the attic to find and unpack her nativity set. In the
process, they discover broken objects. They discuss how God takes broken
objects and makes them beautiful… illustrated by a mosaic cross,
made from broken ceramic plates.
As the children retrieve the nativity set, the Christmas narrative
comes to life with separate groups of children acting it out through
scripture and song. The congregation is always a part of the worship
experience as they sing Christmas songs to help tell the biblical narrative—and
celebrate God’s gift of his Son who makes “all things beautiful.”
The conclusion poignantly brings the point home: Jesus came into the
world to heal the brokenhearted.
